How to fundraise effectively

Please find below a list that should inspire you to join the National Blind Childrens Society fundraising team and how easily you can achieve your goals.

  1. Get involved in a charity that you believe in!
A passionate but brief pitch to your friends and family is your best bet of getting them to support you.
  2. Have a clear understanding of how your funds can support the charity!
People will be more prepared to help if they are aware how vital their support is to ensure National Blind Childrens Society can continue providing support.
  3. Make sure that you carry your sponsorship form at all times!
The old saying “if you don’t ask, you wont get” really applies here. Make sure you have your sponsorship form with you, as you never know when you may find a potential sponsor.
  4. Everyone deserves a little help!
You will be surprised how many people are prepared to help you. Develop a team of ‘recruiters’ amongst your family, friends and work colleagues. Write your name, address and contact number on your sponsorship forms and hand them out to your busy little helpers.
  5. Make a list of all your contacts!
Once you sit down and make a list of all the people you know, you will be surprised at how many opportunities lay ahead. Plan a way to reach all of the contacts on your list by personal contact, post or email.
  6. Pay special attention to Managers with access to large corporate budgets!
If you know someone with contacts to the boardroom, approach them and find out if the company will match whatever you raise pound for pound.
  7. Don’t forget about people a little further away from home!
It is easy to set your own event page on Just Giving so even those people a little further away have no excuse for getting involved.  www.justgiving.com
  8. What about a press release in your local paper!
People within your community may want to support someone in their own town. An ideal way to get through to them is your local newspaper. Approach a local editor and find out if they would support you by placing a story and picture in your paper. Also try the company newsletter.
  9. Actually getting the donations!
Once you have completed your event, it can be quite difficult to collect them money. Why not ask people for post dated cheques? This way they will not have to part with any money if you are unable to complete the event and you are guaranteed payment when you do.
  10. Think outside of the box!
People are more interested when there is something unusual involved. So put you thinking cap on, be brave and be bold!

Good Luck!
