They did go to the ball!
A group of lucky children were thanking Cinderella’s fairy godmother for a magical panto visit.
The National Blind Children’s Society (NBCS) took a group of children with visual impairments and their families to see the audio-described performance of Cinderella at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
The families were met at the theatre by NBCS Activities Development Officer Sally Freeman, Family Support Co-ordinator Hazel Russell and trustee Vidar Hjardeng, with volunteer Shirley Wheatley, Janine Graeme from the theatre and audio-describer Anne Hornsby.
They had an opportunity to go behind the scenes on stage and hear about all the performance and costumes – to see and feel props like the pumpkin, Pegasus the horse and Cinderella’s magical carriage, and ask the theatre staff lots of questions.
Ten-year-old Millie won the game to guess the name of Charley the NBCS cuddly dog.
After the tour they went to the bar for a picnic lunch with refreshments provided by NBCS where the children and their families had a chance to socialise. Headsets were handed out so that the children could listen to the audio-description of the show.
At the interval there were free ice creams provided by NBCS.
The children and their families all loved the day.
