NBCS Launches New Resource Centre
On 1st March 2006, The Lord Mayor of Birmingham officially launched the new and extended National Blind Childrens Society (NBCS) Resource Centre in Quinton, Birmingham.
The NBCS is a national charity that aims to enable blind and partially sighted children and young people to achieve their educational and recreational goals. The head office is in Highbridge Somerset, they also have a central office in Birmingham that has been open for one year.
The office in Birmingham was opened on 1st March 2005 and has proved to be a resounding success. NBCS have managed to help and support over 700 families during 2005 in the West Midlands area, this is in addition to the vast number of families located nationwide!
As the people and resources at the Birmingham office were being stretched, it was necessary to expand the facilities to enable NBCS to reach more children and their families. It is due to this that NBCS are proud to announce that the new and expanded Resource Centre is now open.
The new Resource Centre is full of sensory toys, IT and ICT equipment for the children with Visual Impairment to utilise. This encourages the children to interact with their surroundings and enjoy pleasures in life that most of us take for granted.
The official opening of the new Resource Centre took place in the new centre at 792 Hagley Road West, Quinton, Birmingham. The day was a great success and the delegates that attended said what an asset the centre will prove to be for the Visually Impaired (VI) sector.
NBCS would like to encourage children with a visual impairment and their families living in the West Midlands area to use the Resource Centre. To contact the dedicated team at NBCS please call 0800 781 1444.
