Taking tea with the Mad Hatter

The National Blind Children’s Society had a great time at the London Taxi Drivers’ Mad Hatter’s annual tea party in the Great Room of the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Mayfair.

We took a party of 30 very excited children and were allocated three extremely good tables right next to the dance floor and in front of the stage.  With so many children attending it was rather hectic and we had to make our way through all the welcome line of costume characters waiting to greet us – these included loveable individuals from film, stage and screen such as Star Wars, Dr Who, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, as well as magicians, clowns and balloonists and representatives from the army, police and fire services.

The atmosphere was fantastic with non-stop entertainment on-stage, with appearances by Britain ’s Got Talent winners Diversity; I’m A Celebrity… King and Queen Kim Woodburn and Gino daCampo; actors from Coronation Street, Eastenders and The Bill; the Cheeky Girls and lots of other celebrities – even Dr Who’s Daleks made an appearance.

There was a party tea and each child received a goody bag to take home.

Mum Susan Bromley-Challenor, of London , said: ‘Thank you very much for inviting Hannah to the party. She enjoyed it very much.’

Thank you too to NBCS staff Sally Freeman, Hazel Russell and Lucy Brittain for their invaluable support with the event.
