Family Support:

Family Support FAQs

My child has an eye condition and I wonder if you could advise me about specialist support groups.

Yes, we can help. For example, we have information and contact details for eye condition support groups such as:

Nystagmus
Congenital glaucoma
Coloboma
Macular dystrophy
Stickler's syndrome
Aniridia

I am a parent of a small baby girl who has just been registered partially sighted and I am not sure what it means.

We have an information sheet explaining the registration system and also what benefits you may be entitled to now that she has been registered.

We have just been told our child has a visual impairment and would like to find out about who we need to contact for support, advice and information.

This must be a very difficult time for you and parents can feel very isolated and bewildered. We can help you through this difficult time by giving you practical and emotional support, and the information you need. Many parents are relieved when they contact us and often call us as new concerns and issues arise.

If I require information about the Disability Living Allowance and Carer's Allowance for our child with a visual impairment, can you help us?

Yes we can. We provide information about what benefits you may be entitled to and also have a guide to completing the forms. The application forms for these benefits are quite complicated and parents often need us to help them complete the forms.

Do you provide information about different eye conditions affecting children?

Yes we do, for example:

Congenital glaucoma
Septo optic dysplasia
Optic nerve hypoplasia
Congenital cataracts
Retinoblastoma
Aniridia
Nystagmus
Coloboma

We can also point you to information on many other eye conditions. Please contact us by phone on 01278 764 764 or email enquiries@nbcs.org.uk.
