Educational Advocacy:

Your role as a Parent

As parents you have an important part to play in helping the Local Education Authority to decide which school is right for your child.

Most children with a visual impairment will attend a mainstream school, and some children may attend a special school. Your knowledge, views and experience as a parent are vital in helping your child to develop.

As a parent you have a right to take part in decisions about your child's education, and to be kept informed at all stages.

If you have any concerns at any time, you will probably share them with your friends and family, but also make sure that you share them with professionals working with your child.

The National Blind Children's Society is independent, and knows about children who are blind and partially sighted, so if you would like to talk to someone who is unbiased, contact us now.

The National Blind Children's Society employs a team of qualified teachers of the visually impaired who are regionally placed - they can talk you through your problems and provide professional advice.
