Terms

Annual Review
A meeting held to review the statement, at least every year.

Connexions
A service which links together a range of organisations so that they can work together to give teenagers information, advice and guidance on education, training and careers.

EP
Educational Psychologist - an experienced teacher who has had further specialist training. They work with schools, children and their families to produce a plan to address learning or behavioral difficulties.

IEP
Individual Education Plan - sets out targets for your child to reach and arrangements for checking progress.

LEA
Local Education Authority - the local government body responsible for providing education in your area.

OT
An Occupational Therapist gives practical advice about how to reduce everyday problems e.g. seating or feeding.

Proposed Statement
A draft statement produced before the final Statement.

SALT
A Speech and Language Therapist provides help and advice to improve language and communication.

SENCO
Special Education Needs Coordinator - a teacher with the responsibility for coordinating the special educational needs for children within a school.

Statement
A legal document that describes your child's needs and the extra provision to support those needs.

Transition Plan
A plan which sets out the steps needed for a young person's move from school to adult life. Parents, school, the Connexions service and Social Services will be involved. It takes place in Year 9.
